Phishing is a potential threat, so one must be cautious, most especially whether it is really from a bank before clicking on any link or providing any information that it may be asking on behalf of the bank. Be able to identify phishing signs, such as sending the address from an unknown sender, grammatical errors, and sending urgent requests for personal information.

  1. The only check that you will need to do is monitoring the account statements and transactions frequently. If you come across anything unauthorized or suspicious, report it to the customer service department without delay.

    Put in place account alerts so that you are notified when there are any transactions or account changes.

Have strong, diverse passwords for all your online banking accounts. Don’t use easily guessable words, like birthdays or common names.

Change your passwords periodically and do not use the same passwords across various websites.

If you use your account to manage online banking, enable two-factor authentication to bring your security to the next level. This way, your password will be supplemented with another way of verification, for example, with a text message code.

  1. Educate yourself on common fraud activities such as lottery scams, fake job offerings, and investment scams. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

    DO NOT respond to requests for money transfer, especially from third parties.

Just ensure that your computer and mobile devices are well secured with up-to-date antivirus software and firewall.

Do not log on to your online bank account from public computer labs or over unsecured Wi-Fi.
